VR and Android Chrome

Postby vrlife » Wed Apr 25, 2018 11:01 am

Hello!

Using the org.forgejs.webvrbutton plugin for activating the VR mode works as expected in Desktop (Oculus+Firefox) but its not working on mobile.
Android Chrome shows the split screen, flashes white for a second and then turns black. The VR UI dims itself as if the application was inactive.
Closing the VR mode shows for a instant the last "vr" frame, pointing where the device is oriented, so somehow that's working in background but not displaying it in the split screen.

Enabling chrome debug through remote devices and switching to VR mode shows a warning regarding the deprecation of VREyeParameters.offset that may be helpful.

Any ideas on how to make Forge work properly on Android WebVR?

Tested with several phones (Samsung S6, S7, Huawei P9, Asus Zenfone...) and framework versions (0.9.3, 0.9.4, 0.9.5)

Thanks!

Yes the WebVR API access can be broken into the current release.
We are looking forward to make it in a cleaner way for the next release with the use of the latest Three.js WebVR implementation which will avoid a concurrency between the ForgeJS implementation and the Three.js one.

Oh, ok, thanks for the answer! Is there any estimated date for the next release?

VR is a hot R&D topic for us and we are currently testing this a lot to find the best way to implement it.
